She launched the Pink Flamingo Flocking to Fight Breast Cancer Campaign in 2011 to raise awareness about breast cancer throughout North Orange County. The campaign flocked commercial and residential locations all over the city of Fullerton with flamingos at. Her employer, Joe Lins, at Century 21 Discovery, participated by kicking off the event by welcoming over 40 flamingos that flocked his Century 21 Discovery sign at the corner of Valencia Mesa Drive and Harbor.  Over $1,500 was raised to fund the YWCA Breast Cancer Screening Program.

Her dedication did not stop there.  Martha was approached by performing arts students at Chapman College to explore a fundraiser called “Cabaret for the Cure.”  This was a musical capturing jazz of the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s.  Robin Yokel, student director, chorographer and performer worked with Martha and an event was born that raised over $1,600 for the YWCA Breast Cancer Screening Program.  The best part of this event is that it involved young women planning, implementing and performing a musical for charity.  Last year the YWCA North Orange County screened over 6, 061 uninsured, multicultural women throughout Orange County.

Another passion of Martha is to help young women from low income families attend their prom with dignity, pride and self-confidence.  Since 2009, Martha has volunteered as a Taylor for the Prom Project that provides new or gently used formals to low income high school girls to attend their prom.  To date over 800 high school girls have benefitted from the program with over $7,000 raised.

Last, Martha was the Master of Ceremonies at the 2012 Chocolate Fantasy that drew over 300 guests and raised over $50,000.  This does not count the hours spent as a member of our Board of Directors leading the YWCA North Orange County fearlessly into the future.  The YWCA North Orange County is proud to be on the receiving end of Martha’s kind spirit and her contributions to make North Orange County a better place to live.  Please join us in applauding the contributions that Martha has shared with our community.  Congratulations Martha!
